Rooftop Solar Saves $84 Million In New Power Line Costs In New York And Shows Off Solar Power

Solar on roofs will save $84 million for the customers of the non-profit, Long Island Power Authority and not by reducing the purchase of fossil fuels to run power plants.

Instead of building power lines to a remote part of Long Island, LIPA will put solar on roofs in the communities to which expensive lines would have run and avoid $84 million in line expense.

LIPA's use of solar to reduce grid costs is just one more way that the solar revolution is changing the energy business.
