To hear the spin from the editorial page of the Wall Street Journal, the solar industry is imploding. Then there are the facts.
US solar installations are forecasted to reach 2800 megawatts in 2012, up from 1,855 megawatts in 2011, and 887 megawatts in 2010. http://www.seia.org/cs/news_detail?pressrelease.id=2000.
The 2012 installations will be more than 3 times what was installed in 2010 which in turn was a record year. Indeed, enough solar will be installed just this year to power another 560,000 homes.
U.S. Solar Market Insight forecasts 30% sales growth in 2013 and through 2015. If that forecast is realized, the US will install more than 6,000 megawatts of solar in 2015 alone.
Solar is not imploding. Instead sales and installations are exploding.
