Just two wind stories in this first week of 2012 demonstrate that wind is in the energy major leagues and is storming into 2012. There is no doubt that more new wind capacity will be built in the US during 2012 than any other sort. Indeed, 2012 could be a record year for new wind capacity.
Duke Energy is building a 400 megawatt wind farm in Texas that will require 171 turbines made by Mitsubishi and Siemens. It will be completed by December.
Duke, Mitsubishi, Siemens--three big, world-class companies--further underline that wind is big business.
Exergy also announced this week that it was building 152 megawatts of wind farms in Minnesota and Idaho, while completing in 2012 still another 400 megawatt wind farm in Texas again.
Two, separate 400 megawatt wind farms in Texas alone is amazing enough. But substantial new wind capacity is being built in many states, even possibly a first wind farm in Florida.
Wind is an energy major leaguer that is looking to rewrite the record book in 2012
